I have posted before and mentioned the impact of the movie over her in scandanavia, it might be of interest to you guys to think about presenting the movie in a positive light to any who you know who are still in. Explain that the movie is very true to the way witnesses live and is not condemning. It may just be what will get many young ones to go and see it.

Gas my A$$
by writerpen inthey only reason they have put this big change on the cost of fuel is so that they can easily come back in a year or two - just when they think this wasn't such a good idea and they're losing even more control - and say that, "well, fuel isn't as expensive now, so let's start meeting again for the book study.

When we lived in Britain we had 2 kids, pioneers, no money. Walking to the meeting was not a choice. There was no other possibility when you have no money. We would walk home in the snow, late with the kids after my hubby had done his stint on the magazine counter...often last to leave. We didnt complain too much after all we read the yearbooks and ours was a piece of cake compared to our brothers in the Amazon or Africa. We must have been mad...I had over 30 in my flat for the bs and always offered tea or coffee and biscuits or cake even though we had little money. Still it was a highlight for some with nothing else to look forward to. We lived in a slum area inner London...so the meetings were everything in some peoples lives.

Film "Worlds Apart," screened in NYC - GO SEE IT
by NYCkid inhello, just want to highly recommend the danish film, "worlds apart" now being screend at the tribeca film festival in new york.
the acting is superb and the filmakers represent the witnesses accurately (to the "t") withoug making them appear fanatic.
after all, these are people sincere in their beliefs no matter how absurd.

Yes not to hijack the thread but beards are allowed in Denmark. Sweden is a little bit more touchy on the subject. Ok in Norway. Still you can give a talk at the local assembly with a beard or goatee but not at the district convention...my hubby had to shave his off! Lip dressage is ok everywhere.
The overseers longish hair is a tad too much in the movie otherwise everything else is just soooo realistic that you feel you are back in....help!

My husband left the same time as me and he doesnt give a #### about any kind of announcement of anything to do with the wt society. I am a little more pragmatic. I think of those who really are worn out and dare not say a word in the congs for fear of being branded weak etc. They have a little more time to think now for themselves if they choose to.
It is a big thing that shows that the wt corp is in a defensive position over for the flock...cant beat them anymore so have to wave a carrot or two. I think that it will have the opposite effect than hoped as more will miss the trinity meeting (all three rolled into one) and just make do with the wt meeting.
Shame that none of this is being implemented in poor countries immediately...that is where the food crisis and energy price crisis is really hitting hard...but who cares about them anyway..they still have to pay for the magazines etc.

My friend still in, has been lamenting going to 3 meetings a week for years, was overjoyed and said the kh broke out in clapping. I said I was very happy for her, but a little puzzled that we had toiled away for over 40 years with 3 meetings a week believing the scripture in Heb10..24,25...all the more so as the day draws near. She felt jah had anwsered her prayers..didnt have the heart to disagree..poor thing. Strange about the jubilation...maybe nobody likes the meetings anyway.

Book Study "provision from Jehovah" quotes KM, so why cancelled by GB?
by yesidid inyou will notice that in both these km articles they say the cbs is "a loving arrangement from jehovah".
if that is the case it begs the question: .
what right have they to stop it?

Some one mentioned that the problem of gas prices was part of the reason for the disbanding of a third weekly meeting. I have to comment on that as it seems that once again a corporate business is thinking in terms of money first. I think it is laughable when we hear of the experiences of brothers in yearbooks walking for miles through snake infested jungles to get to meetings and here we have our "poor" brothers in USA having to pay a bit more for gas....try europes prices...they would have you gasping! Still I dont knock less meetings....fewer the better...I just dont buy their reasoning. They probably have to give more money out to the bethel bros for getting to and fro from the meetings...that hurts!
Poor african brothers and sisters all that effort for what is really not that important anymore.

I saw it in January and it is still running in the cinema here in Scandinavia. The girl the story is based on had a full page report in a large newspaper (danish) last year and many have been to see the movie. Very well portrayed and a difficult one to watch if you have been through something similar.
I love tha part when her boyfriend confronts the jw view that all except jws will die at the big A. Riverting!

Hello Helen,
I really could feel empathy with you when I read how you feel at the moment. I stopped attending meetings nearly one year ago after attending from the age of 3...44 years in all. I have had the same feelings of guilt and not knowing where I am with myself. In the last year I have met some wonderful people. I just be myself I dont have to preach to them or expect anything from them other than that we can be friends. I have got involved with a couple of local charities and have seen things that leave me astonished. I have made friends with an elderly woman who uses all her money and time on helping very poor people in rumania. I can honestly say that my husband and I and our children have never been happier than we are now.
Still it has taken a year of turmoil emotionally to come this far. Dont give up, dont go back, dont regret either. I am what I am because of the time as a jw, so I accept that. But now I am moving on and boy am I happy I am.
Read a lot...go to womens clubs...invite a neighbour over for coffee. If you are disappointed in someone, try again. Join a fitness club, meet friends on the net.
Watch the movie then ask your friend if she wants to go away for a weekend...do it! You will have great fun and you will open up to each other.
I wish you all the best and much joy in your life
